Project Overview:
This parody trailer was created to promote my solo stand-up show I Hate Paris on TikTok. Inspired by the 2022 Miss Dior commercial starring Natalie Portman, the concept mocked the melodramatic, “cinematic nonsense” aesthetic common in perfume ads. I analysed several luxury perfume commercials to reproduce their chaotic editing style, poetic-yet-empty voice-over tone, and dreamlike visuals, then distilled it into a deliberately over-the-top vertical trailer designed for viral reach.

Recognition:

The trailer performed strongly on TikTok and contributed directly to selling out my show. Its relatability and satirical tone resonated with audiences who are familiar with the tropes of perfume advertising, helping build engagement around my stand-up material.

My Contribution:

  • Conceived and wrote the parody concept drawing on my stand-up material about perfume commercials.

  • Shot all footage on an iPhone in a single improvised session.

  • Directed myself, created the voice-over script, and recorded the narration.

  • Studied the Miss Dior commercial to mimic its editing patterns, shot structure, and tone.

  • Used stock footage of the Eiffel Tower and layered effects to create a voyeuristic “shot through the window” feel.

  • Edited, colour-graded and added sound design and dreamy visual effects in Final Cut Pro.

  • Exported in vertical social-media-optimised formats and handled publication.
