Project Overview :
For my stand-up show Jesus Year, centred on turning 33, I created a series of promotional videos that avoided the traditional “Come to my show” messaging. Instead, the campaign aimed to showcase my sense of humour by inserting myself into scenes from the 1970s film The Jesus Movie using chroma key. I appear in modern clothing, carrying a phone, reacting as if the events of the film were happening around me today. The tone was playful, irreverent, and grounded in the absurdity of being a modern gay Australian man suddenly dropped into biblical cinema.
Recognition :
The campaign was highly successful online and played a key role in selling out my full run at the Reykjavík Fringe Festival. Audiences connected strongly with the absurdity of the concept and the shareable nature of the videos, which helped build momentum before the show premiered.
My Contribution:
Conceived and wrote the parody concept blending biblical cinema with modern humour.
Shot all footage independently using a green screen setup.
Directed, performed, lit, and filmed all scenes myself.
Keyed, composited, and integrated my performance into archival film scenes.
Edited all videos in Final Cut Pro with comedic timing and visual consistency.
Delivered multiple videos to build anticipation across several platforms.
Creative / Technical Notes:
Full chroma key workflow, including spill suppression and colour matching to archival footage.
Comedic contrast built through modern props and anachronistic delivery.
Integration of low-resolution film material required intentional stylisation for cohesion.
Short, punchy edits designed for high engagement on social platforms.
