Project Overview:
This music video was created for Bjartmar’s debut release, centred on the song’s exploration of emotional emptiness and the sense of being hollow even when surrounded by loved ones. Drawing on the track’s slow, analogue-inspired mood, the concept uses the destruction of fragile hollow objects as a metaphor for internal vulnerability. The visual style balances intimacy with unease, creating a subtle but unsettling atmosphere that mirrors the emotional core of the song

Recognition:

The video was noted for its eerie, analogue aesthetic and its inventive use of reversed performance to create an unsettling emotional tone that supported the song’s debut release.

My Contribution:

  • Developed the full creative concept based on themes of hollowness, fragility, and emotional disconnection.

  • Directed and supervised all production elements of a microbudget shoot.

  • Designed and implemented the reversed lip-sync technique, coaching the artist to perform the song phonetically backwards and at increased speed.

  • Sourced the location and worked closely with the DP to achieve a slow, analogue visual tone.

  • Handled lighting design, asset sourcing, LUT selection, and post-production to craft the final eerie, minimalist aesthetic.

Creative / Technical Notes:

  • Microbudget production requiring resourceful, minimalist planning.

  • Performed reversed lip-sync at increased tempo; footage later slowed and reversed again to create an uncanny “almost right” naturalism.

  • Lighting design focused on soft, analogue-style textures.

  • Integrated found assets, bespoke LUTs, and subtle distortion effects to amplify the emotional tone.

  • Shot with a minimal team, prioritising controlled movement and atmospheric pacing.
